I just thought I would take a moment to appreciate this picture:

  Seriously,

The Forest

Over a week ago, after meeting a witch with some vanity issues, Balthazar and I were off on our MYSTICAL QUEST to search for a dark creature and restore balance to the world.  Being a magical being myself, I have knowledge of all the secret routes and even whole lands unknown to mankind.  Aife, the witch, had told me to gather supplies, and to prepare for a long trip before returning to her for a map and further details.

"Forces are gathering," she told me, "You and Balthazar cannot fly during most of this journey, or they
will shoot you down."

Forces.  There always has to be a mindless army.  They were probably just orcs.  I could handle them.

Our adventure began in the forest.  I am quite familiar with it for miles out.  We started early in the morning.  For hours we traveled through the woods--all beautiful, but none of it new to me.  It's not the easiest thing in the world to get a dragon through the woods without trampling everything, but luckily, Balthazar is still young, so he is not too big.

After many hours, we reached one of my favourite parts of the forest.  Here the magic is discreetly present--but only if you really pay attention.  If you listen closely, you can hear whispers in the wind, and the
sound of little bells.  If you look closely , you can notice the smallest, most delicate details in trees, or what one may just dismiss as a stump;  these details form little houses.  This is the work of pixies, creatures even smaller than fairies, and more shy.

Here I had to stop and look at the map.  Soon we would reach a place where no humans have ever seen, and where I know little of, as Balthazar and I usually fly over it.

I had to get Balthazar food soon.  He is an omnivore, so it is usually pretty easy, but I didn't want to harm a single plant or creature here.  Any plant could belong to a pixie, and the animals here were quite different from those of the "normal" world.  These animals deserve even more respect.  I had brought some food with me, but it was limited.  I gave Balthazar enough to satisfy him, but not as much as he wanted.

Moving on into the woods, I expected to see the enchanted forests like the ones South of here, but instead it was quite different.

As the sun was setting, Balthazar and I walked deeper into the woods, where we saw stranger, darker things.  The forest seemed to poison itself.  It was trapped in it's own darkness.  The trees were so thick, hardly any light could come through.  There were a few patches were the smallest bit of light could show itself, and in those places the life seemed to reach out desperately, only to lose it in a fleeting moment as the sun set.

Having a jumpy dragon with you isn't the greatest situation.  Balthazar walked slowly, jerking his head towards any sound he heard.  He shuffled nervously.  I told him that the faster we moved, the faster we would get out of this place, but he didn't listen.  I had planned on traveling through the night by using a spell to cast light in front of us, but I noticed fresh footprints in the dirt with the last bit of daylight.  Orcs had been here very recently.  It would be unwise to reveal our location.

I heard a twig snap, and Balthazar turned around and blew a stream of flames from his mouth, completely destroying a tree, along with all of the plants around it.  I walked over to see what he had damaged while managing to completely give away our position.  I saw a cooked orc that I assumed was once a scout.

I didn't have to worry about Balthazar's food problem anymore.

As Balthazar took care of the dead orc, I looked ahead, prepared for more to attack.  Surely enough, my expectations were met.  A group of about twenty orcs came running at us.  I pulled out my sword and waited.

I plowed through several easily.  Of course, Balthazar had it even easier, as they were all together.  As he
was burning them all to a crisp, however, I saw a group coming from behind him.  I ran at them and decapitated one, impaled another...these were just goblins.  They weren't exactly a challenge.

Standing in the middle of a bunch of orc corpses, one must experience the smell, which is far from pleasant.  I took out a vial and gathered some blood from one of the orcs.  It could come in handy later.

I didn't want to make camp in the middle of this mess, but the sun was gone.  I had to settle for a clearing near by.  This had been the first day of this MYSTICAL QUEST.  It just hadn't gotten that mystical yet.

Mythical Quest

For the past ten days, Balthazar and I have been on a   MYSTICAL QUEST.  Many challenges were faced as we journeyed through enchanted lands, in search of a creature of darkness.

It all started when we had recently encountered a strange sea witch.  She had given me a hairbrush, which seemed rather strange to me, as she really looked like she could use it.  I took the thing home with me, wondering whether I should keep it or not.  One thing about witches is that they are never to be trusted. I imagined this would probably apply even more if the witch was completely insane.  I studied the brush.  It was pretty simple;  old fashioned.  It was silver with swirling designs in it.  Engraved in it was the name Aife.   I had never heard of anyone with that name.  I decided that I should keep the hairbrush with me.  It didn't look enchanted or anything, but you never know with such things.

Balthazar and I were just walking through the forest when she ran after us.  Another crazy lady...with crazy hair.  "That's mine!" she shouted as she tackled me.  Balthazar blew fire at her, but she reached out and deflected it with her hand.  She snatched the hairbrush off of my belt and caressed it creepily.

"Ah, you must be Aife."  I received no reply, as the witch was too busy brushing her knotted hair.  I tried to talk to her, but she started walking away, still brushing her hair.  Balthazar looked confused--like he was trying to decide whether to burn her to a crisp or follow her.  He decided to follow her.  I followed him.

She didn't look behind her once.  She just kept walking until she reached this hovel.  Outside the hovel was a pile of seemingly random stuff.  From the pile she took out a mirror.  She put down the brush and
gazed into the mirror, smiling approvingly.  She was a pretty woman.  She was young (or at least appeared that way) with clear, pale skin, and thick, dark hair.  Her eyes were a sort of bluish grey.  She wore an old fashioned, black dress.

"I thought I had lost it forever," she said.

I looked at the hairbrush.  I informed her that it had been given to me by a sea witch I had met recently, but that she had failed to give me her name.   Aife explained to me that the witch I had seen was an old friend of hers, but that she had strange ways of accomplishing things.  I had a feeling that this conversation was going to lead to the mentioning of a MYSTICAL QUEST.

"She obviously wanted you to see me," Aife said.  "Probably for the same reason I am forced to stay outside of mt home.  There is a darkness that has taken over this realm.  It is concentrated in certain areas--one of them being my house.  I can handle it more than most, but even I was driven away by it.  I watch it from out here though.  I keep it from leaving the hovel."

She is a witch.  the stereotype says that she should love the darkness, but in reality, she just loves whatever works best for her.  That's the way most witches are.  The darkness is the quick and easy path, usually, which is why they tend to take it.  It always comes with a price, however, which is often sanity.

Aife told us of a creature--one of darkness.  She said it had been contained for a millennium, but that she believed it was now free.  She told us it would be found in the land of Erubesco, which is very far from here.  Of course, the darkness has been spreading quickly because of the creatures growing strength, therefore it was urgent that we go on a MYSTICAL QUEST to find this creature and destroy it.  When I asked why she hadn't sought us out if this was such a problem, she replied, "I don't know...It  didn't seem like a big deal.  I mean, what's the worse that could happen?"

"Everyone could die, and the world could be consumed by darkness, I think," I replied.

"Exactly!" she exclaimed, laughing in a slightly crazed way.  "Now go, I have some beauty tips that I need to try out..." I saw in her pile of a junk a book titled, Natural Beauty (with some help).  I picked it up and flipped through it.  I saw a page that stated that the intestines of frogs enchanted with a healing spell would help with skin.

"Does wonders," Aife said.  I continued to flip through the book.  It was filled with ways to clear up skin, curl hair, straighten hair, dye hair, enhance features, like makeup, but in a natural looking way, and other various beauty tips. It mostly seemed to suggest using fairy dust for stuff.  "I don't know any fairy who would just give fairy dust to a witch who wants to be pretty," I said.

"I'm beautiful," the witch claimed, "And I keep a supply."  Out of her pile, she pulled out a lamp that
gave off a glow.  I looked inside to see a fairy, trapped.  I informed Aife that the fairy only had so much dust on it.  It would run out quickly.

"Do I look like a fool to you?" she asked.  Balthazar opened his mouth as if he could talk.  I shoved him with my elbow...as if he could talk.  "I don't keep the silly fairy for her dust.  She is leverage.  The fairies
give me what I want, and no harm comes to their friend."

I was tempted to pull out my sword--but I knew this was a battle for another time.  I had a feeling I would lose if I tried now.  Best not to anger her anyway, as i could need her help later.

And so it began! Our Mystical Quest. This was going to be epic!

Almost Regular Life is being consumed, and possibly ruined by "Once Upon a Time," an addicting ABC show.  I will sit in my dark room with a laptop for hours and if anyone comes in, I'm like, "WHAT DO YOU WANT????!!!!!!"

    Then they leave.

I'm in the middle of season two right now...it is really cool, but really sad too...

Nobody wants to hear about school or anything, so I won't write about it...honestly, nobody wants to read about my obsessions over TV shows either, but I want to write about them, so it's okay.  Actually, nobody even wants to hear about my pet dragon and orc slaying and stuff...but they should.

The strawberry cookies were good...in a weird way.

     Seriously,
